Headquartered in Oxford, UK, Cobalt Light Systems provides technology to determine the chemical composition of a sample without opening the container or altering the sample. The company has developed a portfolio of unique instruments with applications in pharmaceutical quality control, at airport security check-points and in many areas of research & development.
Technology exclusive to Cobalt
Cobalt's technology is exclusive to the company and was invented at the Science and Technology Facilities Council's Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. Based on Raman spectroscopy, Spatially Offset Raman Spectroscopy (SORS) offers the ability to obtain a characteristic Raman spectrum of a material through its container or beneath a coating. Transmission Raman Spectroscopy (TRS) enables quantitative analysis of mixtures.
Deployed in the goods-in & warehousing areas for the identification of raw materials
In the pharmaceutical industry, Cobalt's technology is deployed in the goods-in and warehousing areas for the identification of raw materials. As raw materials arrive, Cobalt's RapID materials verification system can check the identity of the contents of opaque plastic bottles and even paper or plastic sacks. RapID doesn't require opening the packaging material, making it faster and much less costly to get raw materials into manufacturing.
Tablet and capsule content uniformity analysis in seconds
In QC/QA laboratories Cobalt's TRS100 is used for quantifying the active ingredients in tablets, including coated tablets, and capsules, without the need for sample preparation or pre-treatment. Compared with traditional methods such as High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), the TRS100 offers massive reductions in the cost per test.
