Saint Anne’s wins grant to adopt electronic health record system

Saint Anne's Hospital has won a $667,853 federal grant to support the adoption of an electronic health records system.

The criteria to adopt electronic health records system is to have all patient records filed electronically so that physicians can access those records in any health care setting.

An electronic system would also have quality checks in place that could reduce medication errors and flag diagnostic and lab results that need further attention, according to The Herald News.

The grant was part of more than $14.6m in federal Medicaid Electronic Health Record incentive payments made to 15 Massachusetts hospitals, according to Gov Deval Patrick and Lt Gov Timothy P Murray.

Saint Anne’s Hospital medical affairs vice president Harvey Kowaloff said electronic record keeping could potentially save patients from repeating diagnostic tests.
