New England Biolabs selects Symmetry for SAP HANA cloud migration

New England Biolabs has selected Symmetry to lead its migration to SAP HANA and provide SAP cloud hosting and application management services.

NEB’s rapid business growth and a desire for real-time business intelligence led to the decision to migrate NEB’s instances of SAP ERP to the SAP HANA platform.

After researching several potential partners, NEB selected Symmetry to execute the upgrade and migration to SAP Business Suite on HANA into Symmetry’s HANA cloud environment. Symmetry will also provide ongoing SAP Basis and Security managed services.

In addition, NEB is deploying SAP HANA Live, SAP’s strategic solution for real-time operational reporting on HANA that will deliver SAP data more quickly and efficiently to NEB’s reporting platform. Future plans call for the Symmetry cloud to serve as the fully supported environment enabling the migration to SAP S4/HANA.

"As a rapidly growing biotechnology company, we required greater access to leading-edge database technology as we sought to elevate the sophistication of business processes critical to our success," said Sharon Kaiser, Chief Information Officer, New England Biolabs.

"Symmetry is a trusted business partner that allows us to maintain currency with our technology investments while their deep technical expertise, proven experience with SAP HANA migrations, and hi-touch collaborative approach to solution design were key criteria in our selection process."

SAP HANA is based on the emergence of in-memory database processing designed to support transactions and complex query processing on the same data set. It is enabling massive improvement in end-user response times associated with a wide range of ERP and business functions – particularly those tied to big data and real-time business and revenue reporting. It is redefining the enterprise ERP marketplace and marks the beginning of a major market shift.

"New England Biolabs personifies the leaders in the booming and dynamic biotech industry," said Pete Stevenson, Chairman and CEO of Symmetry.

"These organizations depend on SAP’s database technology and business process applications. We are proud to be the leading provider of advanced SAP application management and hybrid cloud hosting solutions. By migrating to Symmetry’s SAP HANA cloud they are significantly boosting the flexibility and agility of their business model enabling them to compete more effectively and aggressively now and in the future."
