National Cancer Institute selects Pathcore for cancer informatics development

Pathcore and a team of investigators from the US and Canada have received an award from National Cancer Institute (NCI), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), to develop a pathology informatics platform.

This will allow researchers to develop automated cancer detection image analysis tools which can be easily distributed to research and clinical users.

The platform will also support the comparison and validation of algorithms by making available high quality annotated datasets.

Pathcore CEO said Dan Hosseinzadeh said: "This agreement allows us to support translational research using Pathcore’s Sedeen Viewer SDK, a platform for developing and validating cancer informatics algorithms.

Pathcore technologies streamline algorithm development and make these tools accessible by clinicians which ultimately impacts patient care."

The development of these image analysis algorithms will enhance Pathcore’s Sedeen Viewer SDK, a pathology platform designed for viewing and analysis of wholeslide images. Sedeen Viewer is freely available and is currently used in over 100 institutions in 22 countries by researchers and clinicians alike.

The other principal and co-investigators are: Anant Madabhushi, Case Western University; Metin Gurcan, Ohio State University; Anne Martel, Sunnybrook Research Institute; John Tomaszewski, the State University of New York at Buffalo; Michael Feldman, University of Pennsylvania; Ulysses Balis, University of Michigan.

The pathology informatics platform will also be a part of the National Cancer Institute’s Informatics Technology for Cancer Research (ITCR) program, which includes 14 teams from across the United States with a single goal to share information and work together on cancer informatics technology.
