Centice releases study results of drug dispensing process risk levels
Centice, a company engaged in chemical verification of dispensed drug prescriptions and a manufacturer of PASS Rx system, has published findings related to the risk levels of the drug dispensing process from Pharmacy Quality Assurance and Rx Verification Study.
Research study preliminary findings showed that pharmacists can spend up to 50 hours correcting a single dispensing error or Quality Related Event (QRE).
Centice said that the error rates are extremely small as a percentage of total prescriptions filled, but when factored into dispensing prescriptions over time and at average volumes for pharmacies, errors that leave the pharmacy can impact pharmacy financial stability and customer retention.
Centice stated that a typical pharmacy dispensing 1,000 prescriptions a week can save as high as $23,000 per year by reducing QREs.
The study also revealed that, of those QRE’s that leave the pharmacy, strength dispensing errors occur more frequently than dosage or wrong drug errors.
Centice chairman of the board and CEO Scott Albert said that they commissioned this research to understand the risks the average pharmacy faces in the normal conduct of their business.
“Centice is about protecting pharmacists from the consequences of these risks and providing solutions that contribute to a best practice Quality Assurance program,” Albert said.
Centice PASS Rx pharmaceutical authentication sensor system is known to improve the verification process for dispensed medications, thereby improving quality and optimising workflow in the pharmacy.
